And it doesn’t even involve weights, workout clothes or a gym! Just some good company and an appetite. The usual.
So this is the bar seating area by the front of the restaurant at Flex Mussels. Oh, that’s as far as this gym conversation is going to get. So, if you were looking for a new way to hold your dumbbells and get some abs, than a truffle fries conversation won’t suit you. Anyways, this restaurant houses over 20 mussel dishes on the menu. From a Thai style with curry coconut broth, lemongrass, lime, coriander, ginger and garlic (shit, I should have tried this. Next time) to a mussels dish with chorizo or shrimp in the mix.
I went for the Fra Diavolo, which came fully equipped with San Marzano tomatoes, fresh basil, olive oil, red pepper and enough garlic to kill you. Luckily for the world, I had no plans after. I just had to balance out the spice with the bread basket, which was unfortunately a bit on the stale side, but nothing got in my way.
I 100% recommend this restaurant. It was packed, we had no reservation and were led to a table right away. The service was very slow but we were in no rush. The company was great, Ernie and Rapha, the conversation flowed, and we just slurped our mussel juice. The truffle fries were good but did not come hot. We did not leave one crumb anyway. And voila, that’s my gym experience. Mussels and muscles, same thing.
There are two locations, we went to the one uptown, but there is also one in the West Village. Go.
