It’s pronounced (ahhh-sa-ee). Because if I had to delve into the amount of times I corrected a gringo on their “no, it’s ak-ah-eee” sounding vocals, I wouldn’t know where to begin.
The brief schpeel with this berry is that it is an antioxidant powerhouse. End of story. I was feeling rather adventurous on my Sunday morning, and was craving anything but egg whites. I bought the Sambazon packets of frozen açai at Whole Foods and got to work.
Do this: blend 1 frozen açai packet (70 cals, not too shabby) with 1/2 frozen banana (save the other half for the topping), frozen berries and 3/4 cup almond milk. I used a food processor, but you can use a blender.
It’s as simple as that. I topped my concoction with 1/2 banana, goji berries, shredded coconut and granola. The serving size was definitely generous and perfect for one. You can get creative with the toppings as well, throwing some dried figs, honey or almond butter in the mix if your feeling ambitious.
If I had to go back in time, I would possibly have added some stevia into the mix, or some honey on top for added sweetness (the açai was unsweetened and I have the sweet tooth of a ravenous cookie monster).
Other than that, total success and very simple to make.
